The City of Jackson’s summer movie event follows COVID-19 guidelines

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – On Friday night, the city of Jackson kicked off its 3rd annual Movies in the Park Summer series.

Coordinators began the sound check process in the Smith-Wells Stadium parking lot at noon.

The Department of Parks and Recreation said years ago that moviegoers could bring a lawn chair and mingle during the movie. Director Ison Harris said that was not the case this year.

“We’re also going to be social distancing cars,” Harris said. “And so there will be a car and then there will be a space and they will be a car and so it limits our parking. However, but what it does do is space people out to make sure that we are safe and that is the idea.

If you get out of the car, you are asked to wear a mask. Vendors will walk up and down the aisles to offer food and drink.

Harris said even under Governor Tate Reeve’s new executive order, future movie events should still be ready.

“We actually went through the COVID-19 task force. We actually introduced them. They felt the way we were doing it, they felt like it was safe and the best way to do it,” Harris said.

Admission is $5 per car, cash only.
